Simon Doesn't Say
An audio only version of the popular game Simon, with a twist.
The Project
Simon Doesn't Say was a Final Project for my Audio Design Class that I took in Fall Semester of 2017. As per the instructions of the class it is a video game that uses no visuals, only audio to play. The only visual information is a small bit of text that is ultimately unnecessary and redundant. Such games were first created to show that videos games can be more inclusive to blind people who are completely incapable of playing most video games.
Follow the Pattern

I was inspired by the classic physical game Simon, which uses colorful buttons and lights to to show a pattern that the player then has to repeat. It is a simple concept that could easily be translated into audio as even the game Simon accompanies each color with a tone. While it was simple it was also, uninteresting, so I sought out something to add to my game.

This time I found my inspiration in Simon's inspiration, Simon Says the popular play ground game in which one player gives a series of true and false orders to their friends and tries to trick them into doing the false ones. See Simon lacked this capacity to trick the player, and I wanted my game to do that. Instead of using differing tones I got 4 voice actors and had each of them record different voice lines. Each voice and each voice line relates to one of the four arrow keys, Up, Down, Left, and Right. The pattern builds not
from colors but from direction and you are not listening for what direction the voice says but which voice is speaking.
